STORY TELLING HOUR

Started in 1995 the program has the goal to involve children in reading activities, to foster their creative imagination, and the skills for self-education. It gives a librarian one more very effective tool to enrich and broaden children’s knowledge of Jewish folk, languages, tradition, modern Israeli literature and philosophy.
The program aims to involve the audience into the process of reading and developing the story’s plot. Children are not passive listeners, they develop the story, its heroes, their destiny and behavior.
The more methods and forms a librarian uses the better: telling and writing stories, staging, puppet performances, screenwriting, dancing, singing, drawing, playing… It is very important for children to achieve a concrete result, that is why the Kishinev Library maintains a collection of printed and bound books, posters, postcards written and designed by small children. The best creations and compositions are published in the “Keshet” (“Rainbow”) children’s magazine
Designed in cooperation with Jerusalem JDC Library Department, the program serves as a link between the library and Jewish schools and kindergartens.
